Lotta's debut novel IJsvogel is published in October 2024.

Lieke and Vincent have been around each other for years. Lieke does not dare to approach because Vincent is married. Stuck in a loveless marriage, Vincent struggles with his budding love for Lieke and his desire to be a faithful husband.

Erik is a father in deep mourning. He is forced to clear out his deceased son's room due to a move and finds a photo of his favorite schoolteacher in one of his reading books. It throws him back in time, where he is repeatedly confronted with his shortcomings as a father.

For years, Max has been watching from behind his window a woman and her daughter who visit the square in front of his door every day. He films the two. He meticulously captures every action they perform, resulting in a special collection of videocassettes.

The lives in IJsvogel are uniquely intertwined in this refined and profound novel.

'Lotta Blokker writes classic stories, longing and precise, always with a twist.'
Kees 't Hart

'Just like in her other art, sculpture, Lotta Blokker explores in her novel the loneliness of bodies and the desire to coincide with something, with someone. Like her images, the passionate main characters in IJsvogel also try to break free from the form that holds them captive.'
P.F. Thomése
